Treehaven have been awarded accreditation status with the national autistic society (nas)

Treehaven have been awarded accreditation status with the National Autistic Society (NAS), for providing specialist services for autistic people. This impressive honour demonstrates Treehaven staff has a specialised knowledge and understanding of autism. This highlights the organisation of support for autistic people and assesses and addresses the needs of autistic people providing positive outcomes for our service users who have autism. The Treehaven NAS report particularly highlighted its’ following strengths: the excellent working relationship that it has established with the local surgery, which involves weekly visits and phone calls with a named nurse; the wide range of communication tools that the service uses with the service users; the wide range of individualised activities that the service users are involved in; and the very positive response to the questionnaire survey, which reflects the supportive relationships that the service has established with the families of the service users. The report concluded with the following statement: ‘The panel would like to congratulate Treehaven on achieving the high standards required for NAS Accreditation and we look forward to learning of the progress made by the service in future’. The autism accreditation programme was established in 1993, and has achieved international recognition as a measure of high quality provision for autistic people. The process for achieving accreditation begins with registration onto the programme itself, and the allocation of an accreditation advisor who is employed by the NAS. The advisor is available to provide information and makes visits to the service. The review is carried out by fellow professionals, working in the field of autism or similar services and an exit meeting is then held at the end of the review, with discussions on the team’s findings. The team then produce their written report, which is presented to the award panel, who make a decision as to whether the service can receive accredited status for a period of three years.
